YouView Delay Until Early 2012

Another frustrating delay was announced by YouView today.

But the group have now committed to trials in place by the end of this year, with a full launch to consumers by early 2012.

It was clear from the previous announcement they were not confident of a mid-2011 launch, so this doesn’t come as a major surprise.

It does seem from the BBC’s product presentations that the hardware is just not ready yet. And with the hardware specs still changing, software developers are understandably somewhere behind that curve.

CEO of YouView, Richard Halton, said

The aim has always been to deliver a product that is right rather than rushed. Our timings for the launch reflect the scale and complexity of this project.

Let’s hope things are rock solid and out to impress come launch day. There’s nothing worse than a delayed launch which then fails to deliver.
